2022 Outreach Grant Recipients

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Galveston County: Funds will be used to recruit additional volunteers and caregivers to advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children in the foster care system. CASA has served Texas for over 25 years.

Family Service Center of Galveston County: Therapeutic supplies and materials will be purchased to support and enhance FSC’s child-friendly therapeutic services. FSC provides individuals and families with counseling, education, and prevention.

Sunshine Center: Funds will be used for the Client Enrichment expenses for clients in their Day Habilitation Program, who they’re creatively working to serve remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants are individuals who have mental retardation or other learning disabilities and will gain from the experiences this program offers, including personal goals and adaptive life skills for community living.

Shriners Children’s Texas:  Funds will be used to purchase compression garments, enabling optimal recovery outcomes for pediatric burn patients. Shriners Children’s Texas specializes in orthopedics, burn care, and plastic reconstructive surgery, helping its patients to recover and return to the joys of childhood.

Galveston’s Own Farmer’s Market (GOFM):   The funds will be used to build Victory Gardens in neighborhoods that lack access to fresh, high quality produce. Victory Gardens empower area residents to come together, network, and learn the skills to better feed themselves and their families. This grant also helps fund GOFM’s cooking classes and community dinners.

The Galveston County Food Bank:  Funds will be used for costs associated with distribution of nutritional food to the Food Bank’s network of pantries, residential facilities, and meal sites serving Island residents, including the Homebound Nutritional Outreach Program.

Galveston Meals on Wheels:  Funds will be used to cover the food expense for prepared meals being delivered by volunteers to individuals who are unable to prepare meals for themselves due to illness and/or aging.  http://gimow.org/. https://www.facebook.com/GalvestonIslandMealsOnWheels/


Catholic Charities Beacon of Hope Center:  Funds will provide baby supplies and adult nutrition supplements for market-style food pantry

Christus Foundation Our Daily Bread:  Funds will help purchase food for individuals experiencing homelessness

Galveston Island Swim Team (GIST): Funds will be used to help expand instruction for the Learn to Swim program, offering more access to the low-cost swimming lessons for Galveston area residents. GIST teaches lessons to children ages two and up, and also sponsors competitive swimming.

Galveston Urban Ministries:  Funds will be used fund the Getting Ahead workshops which assist participants in getting out of poverty.
